Historical Committee
The mission of the Marina Foundation Historical Committee is to preserve the rich history of the City of Marina for current and future generations. The committee plans to establish a professional archive and create public education programs and exhibits in cooperation with schools, community groups, and businesses.
To that end, it is collecting, cataloging, and archiving documents, photographs, and memorabilia from the city’s past. The committee is also interested in collecting oral histories, tapes, and video recorded memories from residents and others who are interested in sharing their Marina stories.
Highlights & Impact
- The TMF historical archive includes a printed copy of Marina’s original city logo.
- The committee also has the original map drawn by William Locke Paddon, who bought all the land that makes up Marina (except for the former Fort Ord).
- The long-term goal is to secure a location for a historical museum.
Establishing a professional archive will allow the production of public programs and exhibits, enabling cooperation with schools, community groups and businesses to educate the public, and to promote interest in the history of Marina.
