Programs
Program Requirements
Since our inception, the Foundation has added and removed programs – depending on the needs at the time – and can be placed into three main categories that mirror our mission: our City, our Schools, and our Community. Some are continuing as the need is still relevant, and others are projects or events whose time has come to an end. You will see from the following three groups of programs that are still listed on our website. Otherwise you will find them in the About: Our History section. Some of our programs have fundraisers attached, others have grants, and others are pure donations from our community.
1) Programs that are directly related to the City of Marina Recreation and Cultural Services Department: Tree Lighting Celebration; Marina Nutritional Support Program; Marina Teen Center Technology Program; Marina Sculpture Garden Project and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ; Senior ADA Van Project; Friday Night Live Program; Marina Skate Team.
2) Programs designed specifically for educational purposes to assist schools and individual students: Don Livermore Scholarship, Captain Gordon R. Nakagawa Scholarship, Wight Family Scholarship, Timothy C. Wheelis Memorial Scholarship, Roger Williams Memorial Scholarship, and the Jack Stewart College Scholarship for Marina Residents; Marina School Wide Assembly Program.
3) Programs designed to bring our community together and allow our local non-profits and community groups to raise their visibility and operating funds through local Foundation sponsored or assisted events and projects: Marina Man & Woman of the Year Awards; Marina Community Non-Profit Summit; Marina Historical Committee; Memorial Day Dinner to benefit the Veterans Transition Center; Marina Police Department K-9 Unit Fundraiser; Marina Police First Responder Trauma Kits; Marina International Festival of the Winds.
Overall, the Foundation is designed to provide funding assistance where needed, to help fill in the gaps and work with other local community groups, to make Marina a better place to live.
